Recommended Itinerary for 1 week

in Tuscany Archipelago

with boarding in Genoa

CAUTION: Itinerary with long hours of navigation.

You sail from the Old Port and in favourable weather conditions, in a night of navigation you will travel the 88 miles that separate Genoa from Capraia Island. Capraia is a very beautiful, natural and wild island, beautiful to visit from the sea but also by land. The splendid little village, perched on the hill overlooking the port, surmounted by a majestic castle, are a spectacle not to be missed. There are also numerous possibilities for excursions with trekking routes in the north and south of the island, immersing the visitor in a wild land, scented by Mediterranean scrub. Mooring at the port or the field of buoys in the bay, allow the opportunity to make a stop for a visit and enjoy excellent fish dishes in one of the many local taverns.

From Capraia, in a few hours of navigation you reach the Island of Elba on the side n/ o of Punta Polveraia, where we will decide which side of the island we intend to sail depending on the prevailing wind. We start from the north (if we have wind and sea from the first or second quadrant, we will make the turn in reverse!). First possible berth in Marciana Marina, where you can choose whether to moor in the dam Porto di Marciana or at the floating piers of the Circolo della Vela, both friendly and available. Continuing towards E, very nice anchorage to the peninsula of Enfola with south the gulfs of Viticchio, Biodola and Procchio. We sail still towards east and enter from the north in the Gulf of Portoferraio. Beware of the continuous traffic of ferries, which must always be given priority and can enter directly to the mooring of the Marina di Portoferraio, or stretch for an anchor on the south side of the gulf, where it is quiet on muddy bottom, but a little far from the country, for a visit to land. We continue the tour in a clockwise direction and doubling at n/e Punta Vita and the village of Cavo, we sail on the east side of the island’s fish tails. We find mooring possibilities in the small and pretty village of Rio Marina, or we continue to the gulf of Porto Azzurro, where we can moor at the Marina of Porto Azzurro or give still in the great gulf of Mola, a few hundred meters from the country. A visit to land is always recommended as Porto Azzurro is a pretty seaside village, today dedicated to tourism and therefore with a high number of services, restaurants and supermarkets. Also recommended a visit to the beautiful village of Capoliveri, which can be reached by taxi or bus.

From Porto Azzurro continue south, passing Punta Calamita and reaching the southern side of the island, we have several possibilities of anchoring in the numerous bays and ridossi between the Gulf Stella and the Gulf of Lacona, protected by the winds of the first and second quadrant, But a little exposed to the third and fourth!

Possible mooring at the marina of Marina di Campo or if you do not find place, a nice anchorage in the gulf, just south/ west of the dam of the port, with the country easily accessible by tender.

From Marina di Campo, continue to the beautiful but very popular beach of Fetovaia, where you can anchor on 8/10 meters of white sand, protected west by the tip of Fetovaia.
The complete tour of the Elba ends and if you do not have time or want to continue towards the Isola del Giglio and/ or Giannutri, it is then time to return to Genoa. You can then sail towards Portovenere with a navigation of about 80 miles, and then return to Genoa along the east coast with a navigation of another 45 miles.
